The iconic saxophonist and composer Boney James dropped his stunning nineteenth studio album Slow Burn on October 18th via Concord Records. The record's first official single "All I Want Is You" stars the critically acclaimed R&B newcomer October London on vocals, and we’re obsessed! Boney James himself even said it’s "one of the most exciting vocal collaborations l've ever recorded." Boasting a collection of 10-new tracks, Slow Burn marks an all time high in the jazz heavyweights epic three-decade career. Over the years, he has taken home four GRAMMY nominations, three NAACP Image Award nominations, a Soul Train Award for Best Jazz Album, as well as four RIAA Gold Record certifications - just to name a few!!
"When I mentioned the phrase 'slow burn' to people as a possible title, they said, 'That also refers to your whole career in a way,'" Boney James recently reflected. "This is my nineteenth record and I feel like I'm just hitting my stride." The album includes an impressive list of guest collaborators, including the legendary bass player Marcus Miller on "Arcadia" and "Butterfly." Multi-instrumentalist Jairus Mozee also co-wrote and co-produced four tracks on the record alongside Boney James, including the title track.
Over the course of his remarkable career, Boney James has dropped a whopping nineteen studio albums, with 1995's Seduction, 1997's Sweet Thing, and 1999's Body Language, all of which (unsurprisingly!!) became RIAA certified gold. Fast forward to 2015, and the star’s future soul spent eleven weeks at the top of the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart and was even hailed the best selling Contemporary Jazz Record of 2015!! Meanwhile, Boney James’ 2020 effort, Solid, was such a hit that it went on to become his highest ever charting release on the pop charts, peaking in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200!!
